Developing the characters for a book pitch is one of my favorite things to do. Most of the time I start with the plain character and try to find it's emotions and how they will look. Then I start to the whole character, its poses and proportions. The colours... they're very important to me. And also the materials I work with. Most of the time I use mixed media to assemble the whole picture. It can take some time before the feel between character and clothes, accessoirees and the style of environments, additional characters, colours etc. fit together like a pair of gloves. At that time I feel the whole story coming up.
